A community planting activity at North Narrabeen dunes will bring seniors and their grandchildren together to plant native vegetation and learn about the area’s coastal environment.
Community Activity At North Narrabeen Dunes
A Seniors and Grandkids Native Planting Morning is scheduled for Wednesday, 25 March 2026, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the North Narrabeen Sand Dunes in Narrabeen, NSW.
The event forms part of the Northern Beaches Seniors Festival and invites seniors to take part in planting native species that support dune stability and local wildlife.
Participation is free, although registration is required because places are limited.
The activity provides an opportunity for older residents to spend time outdoors while contributing to the health of the local coastal landscape.
Part Of The Northern Beaches Seniors Festival
The planting morning is included in the Northern Beaches Seniors Festival, which runs for four weeks from Monday, 2 March to Sunday, 29 March 2026.
The local program aligns with the NSW Seniors Festival, held between 2 March and 15 March, which celebrates the contributions of older residents and encourages community participation.
The official theme for 2026 is “Live Life in Colour,” promoting creativity, new experiences and active lifestyles among seniors.
Festival activities across the Northern Beaches include workshops, social gatherings, exercise sessions and educational events designed to encourage participation and connection.

What Participants Can Expect
At the North Narrabeen dunes, participants will plant native vegetation that helps support dune stability and local wildlife habitats.
The activity involves walking up to 100 metres across sand with a slight incline and using hand tools to dig and plant. Because of the terrain and physical tasks involved, a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
Seniors may attend with their grandchildren, although children must remain with a responsible senior for the duration of the event. Seniors who do not have grandchildren are also welcome to participate.
Access And Safety Considerations
The activity takes place on soft sand and uneven ground and is not suitable for individuals with mobility limitations or those using wheelchairs, walkers or other mobility aids.
Participants are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and sun-safe clothing, including hats and long sleeves, and to bring a water bottle. All planting tools and materials will be provided.
The event listing identifies Bushland and Biodiversity as the host, and the planting session is described as being run by the Northern Beaches Council Environment and Resilience Team.
Preference for attendance may be given to Northern Beaches residents, although the activity is open to seniors more broadly.

Environmental Learning And Community Participation
The North Narrabeen dunes planting morning is expected to run for approximately 90 minutes, combining environmental education with hands-on planting.
By planting native species, participants contribute to dune stability while learning more about the coastal ecology of the North Narrabeen area.
Registration is required for those wishing to attend the event.
