Defying market predictions, a 50-year-old North Narrabeen home sparked a bidding frenzy, pushing its sale price to $2,555,000 and highlighting a weekend of surprisingly strong auction results across Sydney.
The sale was a highlight of a busy Sydney auction weekend, which saw a preliminary clearance rate of 70.3 per cent from 595 reported results. Across the city, it was clear that the decisions being made were about more than just money; they were about family, history, and securing a place in the community.
A New Beginning with an Ocean Vista

At 9 Amelia Place in North Narrabeen, the appeal was undeniable. Bidding for the four-bedroom house began at its $2 million price guide and quickly surpassed the $2.2 million reserve. According to Julie Lloyd from McGrath Collaroy and Dee Why, the combination of the water panorama and the home’s immaculate presentation created a wonderful vibe that resonated with buyers.
She noted the property was so well cared for that there wasn’t a single cobweb on the brickwork. Six bidders competed for the cul-de-sac property, with the winning couple and their children securing a home with a view meant for a new generation.
The End of an Era in Rosebery

In Rosebery, a chapter closed on a home that had been in the same family for 90 years. The two-bedroom antique brick house at 9 Sutherland Street, complete with a unique jade green bathroom, sparked a bidding war between four of the 12 registered parties. The contest opened with a strong $2 million bid, eventually selling for $2,515,000—a remarkable $415,000 above its reserve.
Chris Skarlatos of The Agency said the auction was a strategic battle of different bidding tactics. The winning family plans to build a new home on the 468-square-metre block, starting a fresh story on the historic land. In a final act of legacy, all proceeds from the sale are being donated to charity.
Investing in the Next Generation

The theme of family legacy was also deeply felt in Lane Cove. An emotional auction saw parents purchase a three-bedroom home at 11 Mooney Street for their son for $2.95 million. Patrick Lang from Belle Property Lane Cove described the moment as one filled with happiness and tears. The seller, who was born in the house, was saying goodbye to a lifetime of memories, while the buyers were joyfully securing a home for their son to start his own family.
Meanwhile, in East Killara, the desire to secure a quality education drove the auction of a five-bedroom home at 10 Roper Place. Its position within the Killara High School catchment was a major drawcard. Jessica Cao of Ray White Upper North Shore said this factor fuelled an intensely paced auction, with the home selling for $3.75 million. The property, which includes a swimming pool and fire pit, was bought by a young family moving from an apartment into their very first house in Australia.
