North Narrabeen Kayaking Trip: Explore and Learn the Secrets of the Narrabeen Lagoon

The Northern Beaches Council has endorsed a kayak trip of the Narrabeen Lagoon and it will start at the Pelican Parade on North Narrabeen on Sunday, the 14th of April 2019.

Friends of Narrabeen Lagoon Catchment Inc Tony Carr will lead the trip to circumnavigate the waters. From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., participants will not just have a fun time exploring the Narrabeen Lagoon but they will also learn about its rich biodiversity and secrets.

Did you know that the Narrabeen Lagoon was an Aboriginal town camp before the British invasion? Indigenous Australians like the Koori also sought refuge at this site during World War II.

Mr Carr will also take the kayakers on special sites around the lagoon like the area filled with hundreds of black swans that have returned to their Narrabeen Lagoon habitat.

As the kayak trip will happen through lunch, participants will have to bring their packed meals and have a picnic with the other kayakers. Mr Carr will find an ideal spot for the lunch break and there will also be time for a swim at the rock pool by the lagoon.

There may also be time to kayak, explore and watch the birds at the Sanctuary Island in the middle of lagoon or paddle towards Middle Creek by Cromer.

The kayak trip is free of charge but registration is required as there are only 14 slots open. Anyone with or without kayaking experience may join but participants must bring their own kayak or hire one at the site for $98 for the day.

Kayakers are expected to converge at the Coastal Environment Centre before 9:00 a.m. on the day of the trip.
